Celebration Honors Graduating First-Generation and Service Scholars

May 8, 2026

On Wednesday, May 6, the graduating cohorts from the First-Gen and Service Scholar programs celebrated all they have accomplished in partnership with the community.

Scholars, faculty, staff, and community partners shared a meal, reflected on their time in the respective programs, and heard remarks from President Rooney.

“As graduates of the First Generation and Service Scholars Programs, you have carried forward the founding vision of the Basilian Fathers: access to a transformative education, a focus on the well-being of our communities, and a commitment to the common good. Thank you for living our mission, for strengthening our community, and for making Fisher the special place that it is,” he said. “Today, we celebrate many achievements. But above all, we celebrate a defining milestone—the completion of your undergraduate education. That accomplishment reflects your commitment to excellence, adaptability, and resilience.”

To culminate their experience, student representatives Ryan Flynn, Sarah Biazon, and Yodit Ghebrezgabiher presented a Cohort Retrospective.
