Basilians Elect Fisher Alumnus as Next Superior General

Father John Huber, CSB ’85 has been elected the next Superior General of the Congregation of St. Basil, while fellow Fisher alumnus Fr. Paul English, CSB ’76, was elected Fourth Councilor.

Fr. Huber has served in multiple leadership roles with the Basilians, including most recently as vicar general of the Congregation of St. Basil and as director of the Basilian Network for Education and the New Evangelization.

A member of the Class of 1985, Fr. Huber received his Bachelor of Arts from St. John Fisher University, a Master of Theology from the University of St. Michael's College, a Master of Arts from Middlebury College, and a Doctorate in Catholic Educational Leadership from the University of San Francisco.

A Rochester native, he also attended Aquinas Institute when it was led by the Basilian Fathers, and later served as a teacher and campus minister at Aquinas from 1991 to 1995. Fr. Huber has served in several other Basilian high schools, including l'Intercollège Saint-Denis in Annonay, France; Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, California; St. Thomas High School in Houston, where he served as principal; and Detroit Catholic Central, where he served as principal and then president.

He also serves on the boards of two Catholic high schools, as well as the Board of Directors of the University of St. Thomas in Houston.

Fellow alumnus Fr. Paul English, CSB '76, also serves on the General Council of the Congregation of St. Basil as Fourth Councilor. Most recently pastor of St. Anne Parish in Houston, Texas, Fr. English served as director of campus ministry at Fisher during the 1990s. Ordained in 1985, his ministry has included parish, teaching, and leadership roles in Indiana, Detroit, Houston, Rochester, and Toronto.
