First-Generation Student Services

St. John Fisher University was founded to serve first-generation students whose aspirations included the pursuit of a college degree.

Each year, Fisher continues to enroll a high percentage of first-generation college students — those whose parents did not graduate from a four-year college or university — and offers a variety of support services to help students thrive.

In recognition of its ongoing commitment to first-generation students, Fisher was selected as one of 60 colleges and universities included in the 2025–26 cohort of the FirstGen Forward Network.

Fisher supports 175 students each year through TRIO Student Support Services and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP). Additional support services for eligible students are available through the Arthur O. Eve. Higher Education Opportunity Program

Fisher’s First-Generation Committee, composed of both employees and students, also serves as a resource for first-generation students across campus. The committee organizes events and workshops throughout the year, including a First-Generation College Celebration in November.

Each year, the University also awards 24 incoming students the Fannie and Sam Constantino First-Generation Scholarship. First-Generation Scholars exhibit a high degree of motivation and academic potential. Selected students come to campus with a passion for civic and community engagement, develop as leaders, and cultivate a practice of impactful engagement with the community.
