Gift Creates Collaborative Study Space in Lavery Library
May 28, 2026
A recent gift from alumnus Jim Stanton, member of the St. John Fisher University class of 1978, has created the Jim Stanton ’78 Group Study Room in Lavery Library.
The Jim Stanton ’78 Group Study Room provides students with a space to meet and work collaboratively, enriching their academic experiences. The space is equipped with whiteboards, TV screens, and supportive technology for students to use.
Stanton has a longstanding commitment to Fisher through philanthropy and engagement. In 2006, he established the Laurie Haywood Stanton Memorial Scholarship in memory of his late wife, Laurie, who was a 1979 accounting graduate of Fisher. The scholarship is awarded each year to full-time undergraduate students with demonstrated need and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Stanton is a long-time planning professional and owner of Stanton Planning Resources, focused on affordable housing and energy strategy for his clients and partners.
Before launching his own consulting business in 2022, Stanton worked at Microsoft for more than two decades, focused on the company’s real estate development, government and community affairs, transportation, and energy strategies. He was also a core team member of Microsoft’s $500 million Affordable Housing Initiative that funded over 8,000 new units of affordable housing in Washington State.
In the community, Stanton has served as board president for the OneRedmond Economic Development Board and as a board member for Habitat for Humanity for Seattle-King County.
