Virtual Health & Wellness Forum- Mental Health Promotion and Wellness for Individuals with IDD

During this forum, organized by Special Olympics New York, Dr. Holly Brown discussed mental health and wellness, focusing on individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Dr. Brown addressed the prevalence of common mental health conditions in this population and strategies for fortifying mental wellness. Additionally, the forum highlighted when to consider seeking additional support and intervention for individuals with IDD.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Transform 2023 Conference was held from November 30 - December 2, 2023. Revisioning Undergraduate Nursing Curriculum with an Eye on Inclusion, American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) 35th Annual Conference

This interactive presentation introduces the audience to a redesigned undergraduate (UG) nursing curriculum, intentionally inclusive of individuals across the lifespan diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Strategies for Managing Anxiety Disorders in Youth with ASD: It’s All About Interprofessional Collaboration

Dr. Holly Brown and Dr. Debbi Napilitano presented “Strategies for managing anxiety disorders in youth with ASD: It’s all about interprofessional collaboration," at the Western New York Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (WNYRCASD) annual conference on Friday, March 18. 

The presentation emphasized the need for interprofessional communication and decision-making among health care teams, which is essential in the context of understanding the complex interactions between medications and behaviors when working with individuals with ASD and anxiety disorders.
