Biology Honor Society Inducts 27 New Members

The Upsilon Rho chapter of the Beta Beta Beta, TriBeta, Biological Honor Society at Fisher held its 14th annual Induction Ceremony on March 27. The chapter inducted 19 new regular members and 11 associate members.

The event included a welcome from Dr. Ann Marie Fallon, dean of the School of Arts and Science, as well as the chapter advisor and chair of the Biology Department, Dr. Noveera Ahmed.

The chapter recognized three members for their outstanding achievements. The Research Award was given to Sidney China, who dedicated an impressive 416 hours, inside and outside of the lab, toward conducting research. This past fall, she gave an oral presentation at the Rochester Academy of Sciences as well as the Fall Semester Life Sciences Symposium, and plans to present at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Virginia this upcoming month. 

The Service Award was given to Ashley Mecca who spent last summer volunteering at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute with Dr. Ajay Gupta, in the Department of Pediatric Oncology. While volunteering, she focused on research and development of current protocols for chemotherapy-related symptoms in pediatric patients. To date, she has dedicated a total of 240 hours of service to Roswell Park. 

The Best Member Award was given to Grace Ike for being actively involved in the chapter’s events to date and for her willingness to offer her assistance in order to serve the Fisher and Rochester communities, especially as a biology learning assistant. 

Senior inductees also received cords for the upcoming graduation. Seniors included Erin Anson, Yeriel Rene Castro Aquino, Annaleise Douglas, Calleigh Farley, Lily Farrell, Natalie Gantress, Isabella Getter, Dayana Nicolle Gonzalez Rosario, Lillian Gottstine, Raphaela Harrienger, Sara Hedges, Natalie Herron, Katie Huber, Nick Karnyski, Izabella LeGrett, Reilly Morrow, Sara M. Notaro, Leigha Premo, Victoria Slade, and Kirsten Rebecca Webster.

New regular members include Connor M. Stanton, Victoria Capuli, Sheriden Southworth, Yeriel Rene Castro Aquino, Garrin Dougherty, Matthew Fisher, Mason Gridley, Ceyda Guler, Madeline Magliocca, Rhea Loretta Malmquist, Elena Maritza Martinez-Nobrega, Ava Mazzini, Leigha Premo, Adam Rossi, Sheriden Southworth, Dani Speranza, Rachel Stabler, Kevin Tran, and Cordelia Wemyss.

Aaron Bushart, Jake Crane, Kalyna Dannenberg, Fozia Gabobe, Emily Garcia, Zofia Keogh, Teagan Moore, Brianna Alicia Padilla, Keira Reckley, Dante Maxwell Ruia, and Addison Schor were inducted as new associate members.

The chapter also installed the new officers. Cordelia Wemyss will serve as president while Olivia Corbin is the new vice president. In addition, Kevin Tran has been named secretary, Matthew Fisher will serve as treasurer, and Victoria Capuli is the new historian.
