Borrowing Library Materials

Lavery Library strives to make shared resources readily available to the Fisher Community.

Borrowing Policies

Borrowing policies are intended to provide access to borrowers requiring library materials for academic success.

Please contact us with any questions or concerns regarding your account at libaccess@sjf.edu or (585) 385-8165. If you feel your account reflects an error, please contact the library service desk as soon as possible.

Course Reserves

Course instructors may place important course items on reserve for their students. Loan periods for these items are set by the instructor and may vary in length, depending on the particular need. As availability of these items is often crucial for the effective completion of assignments, due times are strictly enforced. Late return of reserve material will result in fees and may result in a hold on your student account. Please be considerate of classmates by returning reserve material on time.

Overdue Notices

Overdue notices are issued as a courtesy to all borrowers. It remains the responsibility of the borrower to return materials promptly. Therefore, non-receipt of notices does not excuse the borrower from fees or replacement costs. Please be sure to maintain your Fisher email account to ensure prompt delivery of notices.

Guest borrowers with valid photo ID may submit an email address for the delivery of notices. To do so, please contact the library service desk at libaccess@sjf.edu or (585) 385-8165.

A reminder notice is sent 1-2 days before an item is due. Periodic overdue notices will be sent to borrower email accounts.

Renewing Library Material

Borrowers may often renew materials they still need, provided another borrower has not placed a hold on the item. Please refer to the listed Loan Periods and Policies.

To renew online, logon to My Library Card using your Fisher credentials. Click the Renew All button to renew all items checked out, or click an individual item and then click the Renew button. The new due date will appear in your account. For help with renewing library material, please contact the library service desk at libaccess@sjf.edu or (585) 385-8165.

Holds and Recalls

Fisher students, faculty, and staff may request items that are checked out. When locating an item in the library search box, log in to your Library account by using your Fisher credentials, then select Request for Pickup. If an item is checked out or otherwise unavailable, we will proceed to borrow this item for you through interlibrary loan. You will be notified by email when the item is available for you to pick up. Please pick up your item at the library service desk within seven days. After seven days, the items will be returned to the shelf. For help, ask at the library service desk at libaccess@sjf.edu or (585) 385-8165.

On rare occasions, the library may recall a checked-out item that is needed for course reserve. Please comply with the adjusted due date. Thank you for your assistance in helping us to meet the needs of the entire Fisher community. The library has some textbooks and required course materials available for short-term, in-person use. If you have questions about renting or purchasing textbooks for the semester, please visit the Campus Bookstore.
