Countdown to Commencement 2020: Darienne Slocum Darienne Slocum

02/16/2020 - The next member of the Class of 2020 to be featured in the annual Countdown to Commencement series is Darienne Slocum, a marketing major who was nominated by Monica Gebhardt, assistant registrar and veterans coordinator at Fisher.

Record Broken: Teddi Dance Raises Historic $111K for Camp Good Days and Special Times Students at Fisher raised $111,267.21 for Camp Good Days.

02/15/2020 - “We made this the best one yet!” That’s the cheer that erupted in the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Athletic Center as participants of St. John Fisher College’s Teddi Dance for Love learned that they surpassed their goal and raised a record-breaking $111,267.21 to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times. This is the highest total ever raised in the dance-a-thon’s 38-year history.

02/14/2020 - St. John Fisher College has been named to the 2020-21 Military Friendly® Schools List. The list, which is released by Viqtory Media, measures and promotes organizations that “invest in programs that improve the lives of veterans.”

02/13/2020 - Tyler Adams joined the Teddi Dance for Love as a first-year student to make friends and become more involved on campus. Four years and many positions later, he now serves as chair of one of the biggest and most revered events on campus: a 24-hour dance marathon to raise funds for Camp Good Days and Special Times.

02/13/2020 - Wegmans School of Nursing student Meghan Pesce recently traveled to Waterford, Ireland to complete her nursing preceptorship in intellectual disability nursing. The preceptorship took place at the Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), which holds a partnership with St. John Fisher College through the Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing.

Students from India Visit Wegmans School of Pharmacy Harini Sivakumar and Lakshya Balan, two students from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in India, spent a month at St. John Fisher College’s Wegmans School of Pharmacy.

India Clinic Partnership Marks 10 Years Students Sarah Roberts and Devin Donnelly, along with Dean Christine Birnie and Dr. Lisa Phillips, spent a week at the clinic in India.

02/12/2020 - This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the founding of the Koinonia Medical Clinic, a health care facility in Pune, India, where members of the Wegmans School of Pharmacy have served since its inception. The clinic was established in 2010 in partnership with the Koinonia Fellowship.

02/10/2020 - Dr. Wendi Sierra, assistant professor in the English and interactive media programs at St. John Fisher College, says that preserving an indigenous language is a formidable task. She says many native languages have a “missing generation”—parents or even grandparents who know little or nothing of the language, making it hard to revitalize its daily or home use.
